First International Workshop on *Network 2.0: Work and Knowledge based on Web (WKW 2006)*
19-20 April 2007 in Barcelona during the MeshUp-2007 Conference
This workshop aims at creating a forum for discussing a critical current issues for the Work and Knowledge based on Web, that is, availability. As the Web 2.0 evolves, Network and Personal environments becomes increasingly important. This workshop will focus on addressing of the availability of tools and feasibility to work and knowledge management issues of web base information and communication systems. Typically, web 1.0 deal with information described in Web languages like HTML JavaScript merged with server side scripts and provide interface and web-services.
There are two basic requirements for these systems.
First, they have to satisfy the web-applications requirements by providing sufficient reasoning support.
Second, they must scale well in order to be of practical use.
Given the sheer size and distributed nature of the Web 2.0, these requirements impose additional challenges beyond those addressed by earlier work and knowledge base systems. This has been well recognized by the community. We expect that the above issue is going to challenge the Network 2.0 for a long time of period and significant effort is needed in order to tackle the problem.
This workshop seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners to share their recent ideas and progresses towards building manageable, scalable work and knowledge web base systems for networking.
The workshop will be centered on the discussion of three major aspects:
* foundations, methods and technologies for pushing forward the state-of-the-art;
* performance evaluation and related principles, methodologies and tools;
* identification of important issues and future research directions.
Workshop Topics
----------------
Topics of interests for the workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Reasoning mechanisms, techniques and systems
* Query evaluation and optimization
* Performance evaluation and benchmarks
* Network as distributed and concurrent work and knowledge web base systems.
* Large scale work environments and knowledge management systems
* Web-based information and communication integration and coordination
In addition, the workshop will include a International Conference in order to be able to evaluate the nowadays situation of issues as Social Software, AJAX, Work scenarios and trends and exchange experiences between the major world streams.
The technological area of Network 2.0, only just started to emerge and there is no commonly agreed which can be the "Glocalization" effects a short and long time.
The workshop will address this issue in a special session on new Information and communication tools and trends. In this session, existing benchmarking initiatives will be presented and discussed by organizers and participants of the workshop.
The exhibition area will be an open space for demonstrations, stands and partnership.
Call for papers
The Steering Committee invites submissions on the topics above mentioned for the following:

Description
MeshUp Conference has a main forum of discussion in plenary sessions, workshops and networking sessions on specific thematic areas. It is complemented with a complet Social Programme and after and before of these activities, with a more friendly and unofficial MeshUpCamps with free exchange of experience and generation of new knowledge.
Background
MeshUp new information and communication technologies to collect and merge data and available contents in new integrated applications and information services to the society.
The basic concept behind the MeshUp open space is very simple: When individuals and organisations gain free and simplified access to an integrated open base of information services, contents and platforms and are free to integrate and modify them the whole resource environment evolves. By satisfying their needs users and resource providers enhance and upgrade the system. Unlimited end-user participation will be a source of innovation.
MeshUp merges many data and contents, loosely adding knowledge in a practical information service for all. MeshUps connect crossing networks of data, breeding the usability and feasibility with hybrids contents and interfaces.
MeshUps are ecological evolving meshes of networks without obvious limits, from nanotechnological wearable processing to wireless mobile networks that distribute the infrastructure throughout all devices which store and process data in ambients intelligent in interactive systems of people and data and evolve for sustainable principles of survival.
Network 2.0 in the context of enterprise and web applications is the ability of a person or team to work and interact with other person/team through the web and internet in a join effort with all the synergistic opportunities raised by new business models, available contents and technologies and geographical localization "glocalization". Audience-relationship businesses take these proliferating content options as an opportunity, rather than a challenge. The more options there are, the more value that can be created by producing, organising, packaging, presenting and adding to these options for specific content audiences and clients. So the producers and consumers need to see themselves as members of open networks and immerse in a global Meshup. All2All or All4All.
Objectives and Topics
The Conference constitutes an opportunity to bring Information and Communication MeshUp experts, technicians, practitioners, economists, journalist and scientists to discuss the actual situation and future challenges of MeshUps and the content production and Information services provision and trade. The Conference aims to provide a forum for reviewing the state of the art and new directions in the scientific, technological, economic, social and political issues related to the MeshUp. It can also contribute to increased research and business cooperation in world projects.
